Flower Dance, Fall

Flower Dance, Fall, is the first concerto of Alex Fortunato’s “Flower Dance” series. It is a dynamic concerto for two percussionists, featuring Marimba and Vibraphone, accompanied by a String Quintet, characterized by sudden shifts in tempo, and tone, and color.

The majority of the piece is centered on the four-mallet marimbist, meant for an advanced player. Both percussionists alternate sparse ornamentations on a concert bass drum.

While the String Quintet begins as decoration and momentum for the mallets, a virtuosic violin solo is followed by an energetic string-focused dance in the latter half of the piece.
